SOCIAL JUSTICE
The income gap between rich and poor Americans continues to widen, just like the budget deficit. Republicans insist increasing taxes on the richest Americans would hurt job growth, but they haven't been able to produce job creators who agree. NPR tried to find some millionaire job creators objecting to tax hikes and they came up short. Read the article here.
EQUALITY
We are taught early on that all men are created equal, yet women and minorities still earn less for the same work.
HUMAN RIGHTS
These include workers' rights, access to healthcare, and a woman's right to make reproductive decisions.
VALUE IN GOVERNMENT
Federal, state, and local governments provide essential, often invisible, services that protect us every day. In addition, almost all Americans (not just the poor) receive benefits from the federal government at some point in their lives. FREEDOM OF RELIGION
The First Amendment guarantees freedom of religion, not just Christian religions.
EVIDENCE-BASED POLICY
Governments make decisions that effect us in many ways. We believe these decisions should be based on evidence, not on gut feelings or prejudice.
PRESERVATION OF FARMLAND AND WILDERNESS
We have a finite amount of resources, and some damage cannot be undone. As stewards we must take steps to ensure our county, our country, and our world remain places our descendants will like to call home.
