GENERAL  ASSEMBLY  -  BILLS  OF  CONCERN

JANUARY   16   2012

Republicans have wasted no time in an unprecedented power grab.  First up, it's HB No. 1, which mirrors Mississippi's failed Personhood Amendment.  The bill defines conception as the beginning of all human life, effectively outlawing abortion for any reason, and leaving no exceptions for rape, incest, or danger to a mother's health.  It includes some clever language that circumvents the issues of miscarriage and in vitro fertilization (lessons learned from Mississippi), and is an unconstitutional threat to Virginia women's health and freedom.

DECEMBER    10    2011
COMMITTEE  REORGANIZATION

On Saturday, December 10, the Goochland Democratic Committee voted in a new slate of Officers to lead the Committee in 2012.  Molly Payne was elected the new Chair and Yvette McDermott came on board as the new Secretary.  Ron Reynolds stayed on as Vice-Chair and Lynn Stonnell returned as Treasurer.  The Committee would like to thank outgoing Chair Alan Tucker for all his hard work and dedication over the past two years.  We look forward to Alan's continued involvement in the Committee as we build on his foundation to elect Democrats in 2012.  And although he may need some convincing, we hope to continue enjoying his killer chicken salad!
